About the event
Every day, indigenous people in the Amazon region risk their lives to protect their habitat from deforestation and destruction. They warn of the catastrophic climatic consequences that will result from the deforestation of the green lung. In their moving film WE ARE GUARDIANS, activist Edivan Guajajara and filmmakers Chelsea Greene and Rob Grobman accompany the resistance fighters who are fighting for their homeland. In addition to the forest ranger Marçal and the activist Puyr Tembé, we also meet an illegal logger who is fighting for his own survival and a landowner who is lobbying the passive authorities to preserve the rich ecosystem. The beauty of this film, which provides insight into the economic causes of ongoing deforestation, lies in its intimate, character-focused narrative. This gives us a human approach to the threat to a part of the world that is far away but affects us all.
